The lives of shelter animals vary, and while some go years without a new home, others can quickly start a huge frenzy. Among the latter was a regular gray striped cat with a bad temperament – more than three thousand people have dreamed of becoming his new owners.
What is the peculiarity of this animal? The cat, nicknamed BeeJay, came to the Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia when he was two years old. But he didn’t stay there for long: as soon as his photo appeared on the pages of the shelter, thousands of people decided to take Mr. B. to their homes.
The shelter staff honestly warned that the cat was not affectionate at all, had a bad temper and could even bite, but the number of BJ’s fans only grew. Why?
The thing is that a male cat with a typical “moustache-striped” color differed from his brethren in size, he was much bigger than normal cats. B.J. weighed about 12 kg, and, according to pet lovers, he was not obese, he was just born a giant.
The shelter received 3,000 applications for adoption and as a result, it took hours to choose the best prospect for B.J. from among volunteers who lived on a farm and had another cat in the house. As it turned out later, the animal advocates were not mistaken. The cat’s new owners did everything they could to help him adapt, and BJ gradually began to trust them.
DNA tests revealed the secret of the cat’s enormous size: B.J. was a crossbreed between a Maine Coon and a Norwegian Forest Cat. According to the veterinarian’s opinion, the cat should not have lost weight, and thanks to the diet the owners managed to gradually reduce its weight to 8 kilograms over three years.
