Some people need a decent bank account to be happy, others just need electricity at home. This story will tell the story of a poor 12-year-old boy who has shown an amazing drive for science. Every evening, at about the same time, he was situated with his backpack under a lamppost, which attracted the attention of the police.
The police department of the city of Moche (Peru) noticed this boy while checking the video surveillance system. As it turned out, the boy’s name was Victor Cordoba. He explained his daily appearance under the light by the lack of electricity in the house, which forced him to take books, notebooks and other school supplies and go to where there was light.
The police department published a video of the diligent student on its social networking page. The video pretty quickly became popular. Many commentators admired the young Peruvian’s thirst for knowledge and called on the authorities to solve the issue of lighting in his home.
Soon the boy was visited by the head of the city administration himself, Arturo Fernandez Bazan. He talked to the family and learned that they could not afford to pay the electricity bill. So Victor had to do his lessons by candlelight, and later he found a more budget-friendly way: under a street lamp.
Perhaps many of his peers would have considered such difficult living circumstances as an excuse not to study. But not Victor. The boy dreams of graduating from high school and getting a job with the police. After listening to the family, the mayor gave the schoolboy new writing utensils and promised to help with the electricity.
A 31-year-old philanthropist from Bahrain, Yacoub Moubaraka, also lent a helping hand to Victor. He personally visited the house of Kordob and talked with the boy and his relatives. Now the family lives in a good two-storey cottage. And an Arab benefactor had a hand in it.
Having solved the housing problems, the philanthropist continued to help the family. In particular, he promised Victor’s mother to set up her own business, put the school in order, and equip a computer lab there.
