Xena, a Chihuahua, also had to have her leg amputated because of injuries sustained in an accident. She gave birth at the same time.
Xena lived up to her name as a woman warrior.
The Chihuahua was taken to Fuzz Ball Animal Rescue in Hermiston, Oregon, after she was hit by a car while giving birth. They took the dog to the Oregon Trail Veterinary Clinic, where she had her paw amputated due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Xena also had to have an emergency C-section because her baby was too big for a natural delivery.
What happened after the birth?
On Wednesday, rescuers revealed the happy ending to this heartbreaking story. The chihuahua mother survived the surgeries, as did her healthy baby.
“It’s so wonderful to see them both doing amazing things! It’s just a miracle. This mom is a warrior and so is her baby,” rescuers wrote on Facebook.
“Surviving being outside, crushed, in labor with a puppy too big to get out, then a C-section and a paw amputation is a shock! These are small miracles!
