Many people dream of a beautiful home, but not everyone has enough money for that. However, British architect Laura Clark clearly demonstrated how, without a lot of income to realize the dream. She bought a public restroom and transformed it into a stylish living space.
You can look at this wonderfully transformed property under the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park. Its area is 55 m2.
The architect had noticed the toilet back in 2005. It was built in 1929 and has been in use for just over 50 years. But already in the 80s the building was no longer in use.
The first thing Laura had to do was to identify the owner of the property. Then she learned that the property could not be used for commercial purposes. That’s when it occurred to her to convert the space into a stylish residence.
In 2011, Laura officially became the owner of the property. At that time the space looked terrible – everything around it was broken, littered with garbage and broken, the ceiling was crumbling, the electricity didn’t work, and the utilities were faulty. In addition there was an unpleasant smell.
But this did not scare the enterprising architect. She removed extra partitions and redesigned the premises. She did everything herself, including the wiring.
Repair cost Laura about $85,000, but it was worth it – instead of a dirty abandoned place there was a cozy studio apartment with an interesting design.
Of course, such an idea would not suit the taste of not everyone. But the girl was definitely good! She managed for a relatively small amount of money to get a home in the historic center of the city.It is silly to deny that Laura worked on the glory and achieved an incredible result, having put her heart and soul into every square meter of the old abandoned toilet!
