Among the high school kids you know, how many are thinking about building their own home? We’re guessing no. But Luke Till, a 13-year-old from Dubuque, Iowa, is just that kind of kid.
He managed to build his own home in his backyard. Small and comfortable, which cost the boy only $1,500.Luke is an ordinary teenager with a way of thinking that is not typical for his years. While his peers are attracted to gadgets and games, the kid is passionate about houses. A useful and practical hobby Luke decided to make a reality.
It took about a year to realize his dream. During this time, the guy saved up money, gathered the necessary materials and tools for work. To earn the necessary amount of money, the young builder moonlighted for neighbors, mowing lawns and doing other small jobs. At the same time, he collected funds on the Internet.
The issue of electricity in the house was resolved with the help of barter: the teenager cleaned the garage of an electrician he knew, and the latter promised to help with the wiring. He did not do without the financial help of his parents, who covered part of the expenses. But Greg, the boy’s father, thought it would be better for his son to pay for and implement most of the project himself.
About 75% of the building materials the boy didn’t buy. For example, many of the items were borrowed from his grandmother, and the front door was donated by an uncle’s acquaintance. The living area is 8 squares. The room is 3 m long and 1.7 m wide. All that was left to do was to install the water supply, put the plumbing and a bathtub.
Since many people were interested in the idea, Luke made a video and put it online.
The house truly became the realization of a teenage dream. Now the guy has his own living space, where he is left to himself.
And with comfort: on the first floor there is a living room with a kitchen, where there is a microwave oven and a TV, and on the second floor – a bedroom.Next to the house is equipped with a barbecue and a flower bed. Luke studies here in the evenings and sometimes spends the night.
Having built his own home, the boy does not stop dreaming. Now he plans to build a real cottage after he goes to college.
