Jamie Mohr was born too early, prematurely, and even the doctors did not think he would survive. However, the boy overcame all difficulties and today he is four years old and a true genius. What kind of life path has he already had to overcome?
Lorraine Mohr, 38, who lives in Glasgow, Scotland, had a perfectly normal pregnancy until the 20th week. At that time, she heard from her doctors that they had detected some abnormalities on an ultrasound. She was rushed to the hospital, where it was discovered that the fetus was not developing at a normal rate.
Lorraine’s placenta had stopped working, and so her baby son was not getting the nutrients he needed in the womb to grow and develop. The woman was told that her son could die immediately after birth. Because of this, doctors convinced her to have an abortion, but Lorraine refused.
As a result of the conversation, the doctors told Lorraine that she would have to give birth to a boy very early, at 28 weeks gestation. Even then, the baby would have only a 10 percent chance of surviving. Lorraine wanted to keep her son and stuck to her decision. “It was a roller coaster. I trusted the doctors, but at the same time in the back of my mind I hoped they were wrong,” the mother tells Wales Online.
Finally, on September 10, 2018, the day came when little Jamie was born. Immediately after his birth, the boy was rushed to another room and placed in a preterm delivery room. According to the mother, it was more than 12 hours before she could see her newborn son for the first time.
The doctors didn’t believe the baby could survive, but day by day he grew stronger. November 30 was a magical day when Jamie was finally discharged from the hospital and settled into his own home with his mother. Since then, he has grown and developed at a dizzying rate.Shortly before the boy turned 2 years old, Lorraine noticed that Jamie was unusually intelligent for his age. “We found that his verbal communication skills were excellent.
He could already count to ten and knew the alphabet. I really didn’t realize how much ahead of his time he was because I thought all two-year-olds could do it. That was until the doctor told me it was unusual,” said the mother in an interview.
So Lorraine began to test her son’s abilities. A few weeks later, when it was his birthday, he could count to 50 and only a little later to 100.
Another time, the boy watched a video in which the calculations were done in French. After the video ended, the boy automatically started counting in French, perfectly correctly. Today, 4-year-old Jamie can count numbers in six different languages – Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese and English.
According to doctors, the boy has hyperlexia, key signs of which are the ability to learn to read and count at an early age. On the other hand, it can cause difficulty with reading comprehension and oral skills. Hyperlexia can also be associated with other developmental disorders, such as autism.
Despite all the concerns, so far no abnormalities other than excessive mental abilities have been found in the boy. Jamie will be starting school soon, but because he is developing faster than children his age, a special reading order is being developed for him, Lorraine says.
A personalized reading order is created for him because his math ability is at the level of a 10-year-old child. He can already count fractions and percentages – he’s a math genius.
According to the boy himself, in the future he would like to become a pirate. Quite a normal child’s desire. However, his mother thinks that because of his abilities, Jamie might go into medicine or technology in the future. Well, quite logical adult hopes.Anyway, this is an incredible story of a little boy’s life. Together, let’s wish him nothing but the best for his future.
