Wandering through a flea market, garage sale or junk store is a great way to discover old stuff, make good deals and is always fun.And let’s face it: who wouldn’t love to find a hidden treasure? The chance of finding an unknown Picasso painting or a priceless antique vase is certainly incredibly small, but not impossible.
This story shows that you never know what you might find in a junk shop!About 33 years ago, Debra Goddard, 58, bought a ring at a junk shop for about 10-11 euros. She thought the ring was beautiful, but she had no idea it would be so valuable, reports The Sun.
When I went to the jeweler, he almost fainted and said: “Do you know what this is? It’s a diamond. I was up all night wondering what to do,” she said and after some deliberation, Debra took the ring to Sotheby’s auction house. They confirmed it was indeed a diamond (26.27 carats), after which the ring was put up for auction in 2019.
The jewel sold for €878,000. Subtracting the auction costs, Debra ended up with €558,000. Not bad for an investment of about ten euros! She spent some of the money to pamper her mother. They went to Barbados together and saw a Tom Jones and Celine Dion show in Las Vegas.
