Everyone knows the expression “without hands”, and it is really difficult to imagine how it is possible to live fully and perform everyday activities without using hands. However, it happens that nature creates people who physically have no hands, but they live a full life.Linda Bannon was born without both hands. This was caused by Holt-Oram syndrome, in which there is underdevelopment of the upper extremities and heart problems.
The baby’s parents made every effort to ensure that their daughter did not feel deprived. They surrounded the girl with care, gave her to study in a regular school, helped their daughter to get a good education.
Linda graduated from the university and became an elementary school teacher. Thanks to such a busy life, Linda did not become withdrawn and shy. The girl learned to do everything with her feet: cook food, use cosmetics, sew. Linda started a family quite early.
Together with her husband Richard, the girl learned during her pregnancy that her disease was also transmitted to their future child. The couple did not even discuss whether this baby should be born. Linda knew she could teach the child everything she knew how to do.When the boy was born, the examination showed that in addition to the lack of hands, he also has a serious heart problem. Because of this, Timmy spent the first months of his life in the hospital.
When the family was reunited, the parents treated their son as a normal healthy child. As he grew up, they taught Timmy how to use a toothbrush and cutlery and Linda showed him how to hold objects with his toes. Dad and Mom don’t think their son is special or sick and don’t make any allowances for him. Timmy cleans up his own toys and does his own homework.
Over time, the boy has started going to the pool. He swims safely on his back, using only his legs. The boy also goes to the taekwondo section – in this sport his legs are very actively used. And, like all boys, Timmy adores computer games and easily controls gadgets and the computer with his feet.If some kind of activity is not available to Timmy, his parents teach him to treat it philosophically and not to be discouraged. They show their son that the world is full of other interesting ideas and activities.
With their lives Linda and Timmy show the world that all problems can be solved, even despite physical limitations. The example of the boy and his mother is a great incentive for all people not to be discouraged, to set goals for themselves and to achieve them.
