On February 13, 2003, an unusual baby girl named Kenadi Jourdain was born in Canada. Doctors gave her an incurable diagnosis – primordial dwarfism. It is a very rare disorder, and there are only about 100 people in the world with this pathology.
EmergenceHer mother, even during pregnancy, noticed that her belly did not increase in size with the term. But doctors assured her that everything was fine with the baby and there was absolutely nothing to worry about.
When her due date came, the woman came to the maternity hospital with no visible changes, and it was hard to guess from her appearance that she was in labor. The delivery went without complications, very easily. The girl was born weighing 900 grams and 28 centimeters tall.
Doctors were very surprised to see such a tiny creature come into the world and put her in the special ward for premature babies. Everyone, in one voice, assured that the baby would not survive and we should prepare for the worst.
But surprisingly, the baby clung to life in every way, showing incredible endurance. And soon she and her mother were discharged home. Although she did not grow in weight or height at all.
Unfavorable diagnosisShe was so tiny and fragile that her mother was afraid to pick her up for fear of hurting her. Kenadi looked like a miniature baby doll who looked like an angel.
It took the doctors nine months to give an accurate diagnosis. It sounded like a verdict-primordial or primordial dwarfism. Babies with such abnormalities very rarely live to be a year old.
The disease is accompanied by underdevelopment of bones, mental retardation, respiratory and immune system problems. People with this genetic disorder have very short stature, but their body parts are in proportion.
