In 2012, Diane and his wife Alik and children were forced to leave Sudan because of the turbulent situation in the country. It was chaotic, with a huge number of refugees. In the turmoil, the couple lost each other. Alik flew to America with her children and Diane ended up in one of the refugee camps in Africa.
The couple thought they would never meet again, but fate had other plans for them. When the events of this story took place, Alik already had two children in her arms, and the woman was carrying a third. She was listed as a two-child single mother, and Diane was listed as a single man. As a result, his name was at the very end of the list of refugees, because women and children are always evacuated first.
Alik ended up in Fort Worth, Texas, in the process of refugee placement. In her new place of residence, Alik met volunteers Molly and Marie-Claire, who worked for a refugee relief agency. The women quickly became friends with Alick and her children, attending the birth of their third child. All the while, Diane remained in the refugee camp.
For three whole years, the man waited in line to be resettled in the United States, but it kept coming up. Molly and Marie-Claire knew of the family’s situation and worked hard to reunite them. They negotiated with lawyers and politicians, and after four years the volunteers were able to get a result.
The touching reunion took place at the Dallas/Fort Worth airport. When Diane saw his loved ones, he could not contain his emotions. The man cried sincerely and dropped to his knees. The picture was very touching. Especially if you consider the fact that Diane saw his children 4 years ago, and the youngest had not seen at all.The people present at the airport could not hold back tears, seeing this meeting.
The images do give one goosebumps, but the story itself makes it clear that one should never despair. Even if there is no hope, there are always people who can turn the wheel of fate in the right direction.
