The Cuevas family threw a house party to celebrate the birth of their daughter. Luz and her newborn baby girl had just been released from the hospital. Suddenly, in the heat of the party, the house caught fire. It all happened so fast that Luz didn’t even make it to the nursery on the second floor.
The husband and older children escaped, as did the inconsolable mother. Although no body was found among the charred wreckage of the house, the police were certain that the little girl was completely burned. Luz was given a death certificate. The woman, however, could not come to terms with the terrible loss. But she had to move on for her older children.
Six years later, Luz Cuevas went to a party organized by her acquaintances to celebrate their child’s birthday. There she saw a girl, Alia, and was surprised to realize that she looked a lot like herself and her older children. Luz decided on a ruse: under the pretext of helping her get the gum out of her hair, she took some of her hair, which she sent for DNA testing.
Meanwhile, Luz managed to find out that Alya’s mother was Carolyn Correa. Suddenly she remembered that Carolyn was an acquaintance of her husband’s cousin and had been their guest on the terrible day of the fire. Moreover, Luz recalled that the girl first left the house, then re-entered it and went upstairs to the second floor under the pretext of a forgotten purse, and immediately after she left the tragedy occurred.
DNA testing confirmed her speculation: the daughter Carolyn was in fact her baby, missing six years ago. Carolyn tried to flee after the accusation, but was arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison. Aliyah, on the other hand, returned to her real parents.
There is speculation that Carolyn was also involved in the fire. The woman had a miscarriage shortly before the fatal events, after which her psyche was disturbed. This explains why she might have been so reckless in her decision to kidnap someone else’s child.
