Today our story is about the unique twins who were born in 2016, but their birth was not what it was supposed to be. The twins’ names are Abby and Erin.
The babies weighed 900 grams and were born 10 weeks earlier than expected. They had a very big problem – they had a fused brain, and the doctors didn’t know what to do about it because it wasn’t something they had dealt with many times.
Their parents didn’t want to leave them after learning the reality, but they thought and made decisions ahead of time to solve this problem as quickly as possible. They wanted to help the girls in any way they could so they could live life to the fullest.
The girls were 11 months old when the doctors decided on a very difficult and important operation for them, they didn’t even make any promises because there was an obvious danger that one of the sisters might die during the operation…
They all knew the risks they were taking! But thankfully, the girls were able to survive the 11-hour surgery and are doing well! They recently turned 4 years old and are living life to the fullest, just like all girls their age.The girls’ mother is very proud of the doctors’ work and says they are true heroes to their family! The doctors are also pleased with their work and closely monitor the twins’ growth and development. In fact, this surgery was the first case of its kind in medical history in which twins were separated at such an early age.
Erin’s skull was less damaged than Abby’s, and she was at risk of infection and bleeding for some time.Doctors warned her parents of the dangers before the surgery. They inserted special bullets into the babies’ skulls to stretch their skin over their heads.
They were afraid of doing something careless, but made a lot of effort to operate on the children no matter what. After the procedure, the girls were placed in an induced coma so they could de-stress. In order to restore the brain processes that did not develop during this period, both are currently undergoing therapy.
In the coming years, they will undergo further procedures and tests to replace their lost bones and rebuild their heads.
The parents are very grateful to the doctors for their hard work and sincerely hope to have a full and happy life after these setbacks! If this was interesting, share it with your friends and family!
