Sometimes a ridiculous accident splits a person’s life in two halves and changes the way they live forever.
On a balmy autumn day, nothing seemed to suggest disaster to British resident Jane Hardman.
While walking with her beloved dog, she didn’t have time to turn away from the dog’s jump, and the playful mastiff snagged the woman’s nose.
After unsuccessful attempts to stop the bleeding, Jane went to see a doctor. After a checkup at a local clinic, she was advised to apply cold compresses to her nose. But the swelling did not subside, and the overall condition worsened with each passing day. The woman spent half a year in agony and decided to see a more qualified specialists.
DiagnosisA more experienced doctor diagnosed Jane with a serious autoimmune disease – Wegener’s granulomatosis. The disease is dangerous because it affects the nasopharynx, eyes, and other life-critical organs. The neglected condition can lead to death.
The woman underwent a full course of treatment, including chemotherapy. Inflammation of the vascular walls was completely cured, but the woman’s nose could not be saved. After her nose was amputated, the patient did not become depressed.
She took what had happened with a share of irony and was infinitely glad that she had been saved. During the treatment Jane had always been with her husband, who supported her in every way. Her friends and relatives were also actively involved in Jane’s story, sharing her sympathy and grieving with her.
Life after the tragedy now Hardman refers to the situation with humor. In an interview to a British magazine she admitted she is not upset by her natural nose loss, now that Jane has more than one prosthetic device. Jane jokes:
“Every morning I choose which nose to wear today. Jane Hardman is a frequent guest on television. Through her charity work, she has become quite famous in the media space. She is regularly invited to various talk shows, where the woman gives advice to people who find themselves in difficult situations.
