Alia Saleem was born in a provincial village in eastern India in late 2013. At birth, she weighed about 4 kilograms, slightly more than normal.
But in all other respects the girl was no different from other children. For three and a half months her development was normal, but after that Alia began to gain weight dramatically.
Unbridled appetite did the baby’s work, and by 10 months of age, her weight exceeded 18 kg, which corresponds to the weight of an average 5-year-old child.
Aliya’s father Mohammed worked in a tailoring shop, and his modest salary was not enough to take his daughter to the clinic in the capital for a consultation. Almost all of the family’s money went on food for the child and new clothes, because with such a weight gain things became small very quickly.
Meanwhile, time went on. In March 2015, when Aliya turned 18 months old, and the arrow on the scale exceeded the 24 kg mark, the newspapers began to write about the unusual child.
Soon a video report was made about Aliyah, which was watched by more than 70 million people around the world.
Thanks to the media and television attention, Aliya became a kind of celebrity in India, and her parents received the money they needed to pay for the services of specialists.
Pediatrician Bhavya Kumar, who already had experience working with similar cases, took on the fight against Aliya’s overweight.
A special menu was developed for Aliya, which contained almost 4 times fewer calories than before the girl consumed. She began to move more, took a special aerobics course at the clinic, and began to spend more time outdoors.
By the age of three, Aliya already weighed 19 kilograms, which is only 3-4 kilograms above the norm.Aliya has changed a lot during this time: she became more active and cheerful girl. Playing outside with her friends all day long, she continued to lose weight on her own, without the help of specialists.
Aliyah Salim is now 8 years old. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a recent photo of her, since the media interest in her disappeared right after her transformation. But we’re firmly convinced that she’s doing well now.
