A young man named Stephen was inspired by this story – and also decided to try to find his family there…In January 1977, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the family of veterinarian Marks Barnes and artist Charlotte Moriarty had a baby boy, who was named Marks Panama Moriarty Barnes.
This was the second child of the couple, the family also grew 8-year-old daughter Jennifer.Jun 21, 1977 Charlotte went with her son to the store, which was a few blocks from home, Marks senior at this time doing housework.
Enough time passed and his wife and son were still missing. At first the man searched for the missing on his own, then he turned to the police.
A full-scale search began, which unfortunately did not bring any results.
A month later, the police came upon a young woman and her baby near Honolulu. She gave his and her son’s names, which turned out to be invented, and when asked about the father, she said he was a native Hawaiian. The child’s mother was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where she later escaped from (and was never heard from again), and the police could not find the boy’s other relatives because they did not know who he was or where he was from.
The child was placed in an orphanage, which was literally 50 kilometers from Honolulu. And three years later the boy was adopted by a married couple – Stephen Carter and his wife Pat. As she later told the woman, she fell in love with this child at first sight.Named the son as well as his father – Stephen.
The family lived in a respectable neighborhood, Steven Jr. grew up in love and prosperity. Foster parents gave the boy a good education, helped and supported him in everything. Carter grew up, went to work, got married – everything was going smoothly in the man’s life.
That said, Stephen knew he was adopted and was eager to uncover the secret of his past.
In 2011, Carter heard Carlina Wyatt’s story and decided to visit the website she was talking about. Browsing through it, he suddenly came across… his photo.Growing up, Marks Jr.’s sister, Jennifer, had posted information about her brother on the site. On the left was a photo of the boy taken shortly before he went missing, and on the right was placed a rough image created by experts of what a teenage Marks might look like.
These images are what Stephen Carter saw. The teenage boy looked virtually one-to-one like Steve himself at the same age. The man later described his first impression of what he saw as, “A shiver ran through my body.”
Carter contacted the police and said he might be Marks Moriarty. The police, in turn, broke the news to Stephen’s father and sister. A DNA test taken a few months later confirmed the relationship.
At the time, Stephen/Marks was 34 years old.
Nevertheless, the man was in no hurry to meet his old family, saying that he was not ready for that yet and needed time.
In 2012, he called both his sister and father separately. Marks Sr. then recounted that the first conversation with his son consisted of, “Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.” Also, Stephen’s father said he always believed that someday his son would come back and knock on the door.
