Winter is a time that can make you feel homesick because of gray skies and temperatures. But when you have heating and a roof over your head, the days go by much faster and more comfortably than for those who live on the streets.
Some time ago, Natalie Barnes, a bus driver, was taking her usual route to Milwaukee when a homeless man named Richard boarded her bus in the evening.
Richard had no money and was freezing to death. Milwaukee is in the far north of the United States and it is very cold in the winter.
He told her he had been homeless for a week, CBS reported. She offered to buy him food, but the proud man refused. The woman didn’t give up and asked him to stay on the bus with her.
She drove across town for hours, and Richard sat quietly on the bus, even though he didn’t have a ticket and it was forbidden.
During his break, they began to talk, after which she went to buy him food. “I don’t know what to say except thank you,” he told her when she returned with the food. “I’ll give it back to you.”
“No, you don’t have to!” – replied Natalie, who also contacted the welfare organization.
Soon Richard was contacted and given temporary shelter and help to get his life back on track.
It’s a beautiful story. Thanks to Natalie, this man has a new chance at life. It often doesn’t take much to help your neighbor. A great lesson, especially at this time of year.
