The hero of the story was Odra, a girl living in the Latvian town of Prenai. One afternoon Audra was leisurely returning home in her car. The girl lived near a body of water, so she always drove slowly and carefully along that stretch of road. Suddenly a wet animal stomping along the bank caught her eye.Stopping the car, Audra was shocked. Standing beside the river was a dog with a homemade heavy anchor around its neck. The dog could barely take a step-the weight of the collar was literally throwing him to the ground. That he was able to swim out of the river, trapped in the anchor, was a true miracle. Audra, of course, couldn’t leave her dog behind, and immediately went with her to the nearest veterinary clinic.
Fortunately, the vet didn’t diagnose the dog with any serious injuries. The dog turned out to be a purebred, a young cocker spaniel. It is hard to guess what kind of monster was his owner and why they decided to get rid of the pet this way. The animal literally managed to beat death and get out of the trap in one piece.Audra did not leave the spaniel and appealed to law enforcement, because cruelty to animals is punishable by law. Tor’s owner, which was the name of the spaniel, was found pretty quickly. However, the owner denied any involvement in the incident. He claimed that the animal had been stolen and that some crazy person had tried to drown it.
The proceedings are now underway. It is known that the anchor was made by the man from car parts. Police and animal services have refused to return Thor to the owner, lest the incident happen again. Even if the owner was telling the truth, he, being disabled, failed to provide the dog with proper care and did not keep it out of harm’s way. Today, Thor is being rehabilitated at a local shelter where he is being cared for.
Such cases, unfortunately, are not uncommon in our cruel world. But it is good that there are still good people who are not indifferent to other people’s troubles.
