It is often said that dogs are man’s best friends. This case is the perfect proof that this is absolutely true.Andy Sass, 62, from Great Britain, who worked as an engineer, suffered a terrible stroke of fate when he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
However, after a long and difficult period of treatment, he received the good news, the disease had receded, but because of the treatment, Andy’s body’s immune defense system had deteriorated.
One December night Andy suddenly felt weak and was taken to the hospital with pneumonia. Because of his lack of immune defenses, pneumonia was much more dangerous for him than for the average person.
In the end, the situation was so serious that the doctors had no choice but to put the man into a coma with medication and turn on the ventilator. The coma was only supposed to be a temporary solution from which he would wake up in about a week after the worst was over. Andy’s wife was doing everything she could to support her husband in the hospital. She would sit by his bedside and talk to him every day, hoping that Andy would hear her words.
His wife knew that Andy loved a dog, so she decided to ask the hospital staff if she could bring a pet with her into the room. Although hospital rules prohibited animals, the doctors decided to make an exception.
The little dog had been a sight for Andy’s eyes for years and a very strong bond had developed between them.
So Estelle’s wife was confident that Teddy the dog’s company could lift his spirits and even help Andy recover – even though he was in a coma. When Teddy arrived at the hospital with Estelle, they were sent straight to Andy’s room. The dog perked up as soon as he saw his owner and started barking and wagging his tail vigorously. The reaction of the dog delighted all present, but what happened next stunned even the doctors.
Like a bolt of lightning, Andy woke up from his coma and opened his eyes – three days before he was supposed to wake up. No one could believe their eyes. The doctors, nurses, and Estelle’s wife were confused and surprised.
Teddy’s presence had such a powerful effect on Andy that he immediately woke up. However, perhaps the most special thing about this situation was how attentive Andy was, as soon as he woke up, he immediately wanted to pet and greet his beloved dog.
After this situation, Teddy received a special mention and award from the animal welfare organization RSPCA. He has now also become a therapy dog who has made several visits to the hospital to cheer up other patients. That’s the kind of amazing story that’s hard to believe.
