How many wives do you think one man can have? You’ll probably answer one. Nevertheless, some places believe that a man should have many wives, so polygamy is common in such countries.
This is quite common, it is not forbidden by law, and it exists in many countries in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. But today we want to tell you about a man who was not enough to have two or three wives. His name is Zion, and he has a total of 39 spouses. He is the head of the largest family in the world. You won’t believe it, but he has 94 children and 33 grandchildren.
The man and his offspring and spouses live in the southeastern Indian village of Bakwatang, a place with no civilization for miles around. The village is built on a hillside, with a bright purple building called Chuan Tar Ran at its center. It means “New Generation House”. This huge house is home to 193 members of Zion’s family.
Zion, now 72 years old, first got married in 1959, when he was just 15 years old. Since then he has had a new wife every 1.5 years. And once in a year, he married once to 10 women!, The family lives almost on a military schedule. Meals are always eaten at the same time. All the wives take part in preparing meals for this huge family. For dinner alone, 30 chickens, 50 kilos of potatoes, and 82 kilos of boiled rice are consumed.
Teaching the children was difficult at first because the local village school could not accommodate all 94 of the man’s children. Eventually Zion built a separate school for his offspring. The teachers at this school are his older children. The children also play soccer; they have formed several soccer teams and regularly play against each other.Zion’s wives take turns taking care of their husband. Every day eight women attend to him. Surprisingly, they all get along very well with each other.
Their relationship is based on mutual love and respect. And they sleep in one large shared bedroom. And the younger wives sleep closer to Zion’s bedroom and the older wives sleep farther away. Not only is this a very large family, but it is also a well-functioning enterprise. Zion is a wealthy man, and his family owns a furniture manufacturing company that puts out hundreds of pieces each year.
There are several carpentry shops in this purple building, and every adult member of the family works in them. Although Indian law prohibits polygamy, Zion was able to find a loophole in it.After all, according to Indian law, tribes living in remote areas of the country and practicing local beliefs are allowed polygamy.
So the man invented his own religion that allows his members to have as many wives as they want. And Ziona is the head of this religion, or rather a Christian sect that goes by the name of Channa Po. Not surprisingly, Ziona is treated as a deity in the village. And local women consider it a great honor to marry such a man.
