A few months ago, a mother in Britain gave birth to twins with different skin colors. Scientists say that the probability of twins born that different is 1:500!The parents of the twins with different skin colors are Chantelle and Ashton Broughton from England. The woman’s father is British and her mother is of Nigerian descent.
Chantelle’s husband is of Jamaican and Scottish descent. This diversity of bloods, according to doctors, was the prerequisite for the birth of unlike each other babies. When journalists learned about the spouses Broughton and their children, the family as a whole was invited to the TV show “Good Morning Britain”. In the studio, the happy mommy revealed that her son and daughter were born in April 2022.
“At first we didn’t notice that the children were born with different skin colors – they looked the same outwardly. A few hours later, the girl’s skin darkened and the boy’s lightened. The doctors were very surprised by what was happening,” Chantelle recalled laughing. In addition to the differences in skin color, Chantelle and Broughton’s son and daughter have different eye color: one is brown and the other is green.
The father of the unusual twins said that everyone on the street pays attention to them, and many people do not believe that the swarthy girl and her white-skinned brother are siblings born on the same day.
However, some scientists do not see any anomaly in what happened.
So, doctor Amir Khan explains that the color of a person’s skin is determined by about 20 different genes, and since the twins’ parents have dark-skinned relatives in the family, it is not surprising that this affected the color of the skin and eyes of one of the babies.
The doctor also added that there are very few such twins around the world, so no in-depth genetic studies have been done on this yet.Still an amazing case, right?
