It all started when a young couple just decided to have a baby. After several attempts, they discovered they were having fertility problems and resorted to IVF. A few months later, they had a daughter. After a few more years, they decided they wanted a second child, so they resorted to IVF again.
The doctor warned them about the possibility of multiple pregnancies, but what came out in the end they could not have imagined even in their wildest dreams! Not only did the young mother become pregnant, but 7 months later she was holding 5 newborn girls in her arms.
The babies weighed less than a kilogram, they were left in the hospital where they were able to grow, gain weight and soon go to their new home with their parents and older sister.
At first, both were spinning like squirrels in a wheel, nonstop, 24/7 to keep their 5 new babies fed, clean and happy. They had 429 diapers a week and 40 bottles of milk a day. It was only through military discipline and a strict schedule that they were able to cope with the babies’ first year.
“We only had a 45-minute break from feeding and changing our 5 babies until it was time for them to eat again. I thought this vicious cycle would never end! I couldn’t wait to get back to work so I could rest there,” their mom says today with a laugh.
But as grueling as raising five-year-olds has been, both parents admit it’s an amazing experience they wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.
